We just had our thanksgiving up here in good ol’ Canada and we were able to enjoy a ton of family time and a ton of food. In fact, cialis I had three dinners – two full on turkey dinners and one salmon dinner (totes Canadiana). I am feeling full in every sense of the word. BUT as full as I am, I will always have room for hummus. It’s one of my favourite food groups. It’s not really a fall type of food, but who cares. I will eat this stuff up all year round. Especially when it’s a simple spicy hummus recipe, like this one!
Our good friend Tania of Hello Dudettes helped us out with this. This is her recipe. She was kind enough to come over and help Jo and I master it, so we could share it with all of you! You might remember Tania from our Maker of the Month earlier this year, check her out, she is awesome.
Simple Spicy Hummus serves a bunch of people
2 big cans of chickpeas/garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
1 heaping tbsp of tahini
1 small can of ‘la costena peppers’ or ‘San Marcos’ – we used jalepeno peppers *see notes for more info
Some reserved juice from the green peppers can
2 big juicy limes, juiced
1 tbsp garlic powder
A pinch of salt and pepper
cilantro for garnish
Super simple! All you need to do is measure everything out and blend it all together in a food processor, magic bullet, or powerful(ish) blender. Blend to your desired consistency. If you need to add more liquid, add some liquid from your green peppers can or some extra lime juice – or do both! Once it’s done, pour it in your favourite dish and garnish it with some cilantro and lime wedges. Yum!
* You will take anywhere from 2-4 peppers from the can depending on how spicy you’d like it – don’t use any of the carrots that come with the peppers. If you are wanting something even spicier – you can add one or two serrano peppers (canned as well), or cayenne peppers, dried chile etc instead. You choose what you’d like!
The subtle spicy-ness of this hummus is perfect. You can always bump up the spice by adding more peppers or, of course, bump down the spice by adding less! I will always bump it up, cuz I love myself a runny nose and tingly mouth! lol
Obviously feed it to all your party guests.
Get right in there. They will be so happy!
Thanks Tania! I can’t wait to make this my new go-to for hummus. I usually just use store bought stuff because I am laaaazy, and I thought making hummus was hard to make, but this is SO much better – plus, there is no oil! Amazing.
Have a great short work week, friends – make yourself some hummus and eat it all week long!
