Plants, viagra no rx plants, tadalafil discount plants! I love having plants all around my home, but they tend to not last, because…I kill them. And although this happens a lot of the time (most of time) I still wanted to fill my kitchen with plants! There was a bit of an awkward space above our sink and since we are in a rental – we can’t just replace the entire kitchen…so I improvised. And I got to say – I love how it turned out and am pretty proud that I just made it up!
There’s a couple things we did (Conrad and I worked on this together) that made the space waaaay better. First and foremost we made a shelf for plants to sit in. Basically to make this all you need to do is measure how long you want the shelf to be and cut to size. Our piece of wood is 2 feet long by 9 inches wide. Then choose the size of pots that you are going to fit into the shelf and draw circles wide enough that the pot can fit in right under the ‘lip’. Use a jigsaw and cut out each circle. We cut out the initial circle and then had to trim a few times so that the pots really fit in nice and snug. Then once your circles are good – sand it all to make it smooth.
I love the way it looks! We fit the shelf in to our weird little nook and then screwed it in to place from the inside of the cupboard. The plants themselves aren’t very heavy so it worked out great.
The other thing we did to make this space much better was replacing the old metal towel hangers with these great dowel knobs. I just thought – hey! why not use dowel ends instead of searching for cool hanger thingies? Turns out that was a good idea.
To make the dowel knobs, simply cut dowel to the length you want – ours is 3.5 inches long. Then drill them into the wall. Ours were drilled into the previous holes from the old hangers. Easy peasy!
Cactus aren’t hard to kill, right? Well we will have to wait and see. I’ve had many a cactus plant before and…dead. Wish me luck!
I love when a home improvement actually improves your home! This little shelf has made the area so much nicer. We have a bit of weird kitchen – the countertops are lower than normal and don’t come out as far as they should. It’s just a little awkward. So it’s nice to have something that draws your attention up and away from the out of balance countertops. I also love the natural wood colour alongside all the white. My next improvement in this room is going to be replacing the rest of the hardware and maybe adding a bit of colour to the space in an unconventional way, you’ll have to wait and see ;)
I hope this inspires you to change something up in your kitchen, it’s just so refreshing!
